SOHA 2021 Mink Awardee: Dr. Francisco Balderrama

The Southwest Oral History Association is pleased to honor Dr. Francisco Balderrama and his body of work in oral history with the James V. Mink Award for 2021. We are delighted to honor Dr. Balderrama for a full career of outstanding contributions to the field of oral history.

His work researching and presenting Mexican American history, especially Mexican Repatriation, is such an important contribution to the history of the Southwest and the United States. His career commitment to the use of oral history in the classroom from content to student assignments “doing oral history” spreads the power of oral history. We also honor his lifelong commitment to social justice that is incorporated in his oral history work.

We plan to present the Mink Award to Dr. Balderrama at the SOHA Awards ceremony during the virtual 2021 Oral History Association Annual Meeting. The Awards Ceremony is scheduled for Thursday, October 14 at 12:30 pm Eastern Time. We look forward to hearing a few remarks from Dr. Balderrama about his work at that time. Please join us for the Awards Ceremony to honor the recipients of the Mink Award and SOHA Mini-Grants!
